Radical Public Service

BBC funds Channel 4 digital output? Radical.  So why just C4? This possibility does not seem far from OfCom’s desire to create a  competitive framework for Public Service content  – are the BBC just pre-empting this? The BBC as a Public Service publisher is an interesting idea and it certainly opens up avenues in things like gaming [thanks Alice].  With the governer’s response to Graf  outlining its challenge to Build Public Value  it does  seem that the BBC is entering the most radical assessment of Public Service since its inception which cuts to the very core of what the term actualy means in practice.  A more open, engaging and innovative BBC? No more daytme pap?  We want to feel the quality!  Exciting stuff.
